djblesOne of Mash Hall Presents: The Dro Bots Saga

I just came across a project album comprised of Bruce Illest (djblesOne) of Massive Monkees/Mash Hall and Gatsby of Cancer Rising who takes on the moniker of Dro Boy. Sh!t is ridiculously ridiculous. Naw, not even ridiculously ridiculous, sh!t is bananas on some narrative type journey to space and beyond, yet it's still grounded and not too far out. Ya dig?! If not, just take a listen and then you'll understand what I'm talkin 'bout.

The "saga" is even broken up in chapters. Barfly of The Saturday Knights even makes an appearance on this soundscape that would be fitting before, during, and after several rounds of drinks or a little puff, puff, pass action. Wake up the next morning in a stupor and press play again and you'll experience something different prior to first listening to this mini album. I've had this on repeat for the past hour or so and can only hope that the saga continues in hopes of another Dro Bots song or album. In the meantime, click here to download The Dro Bots Saga. h/t Raindrop Hustla

Fuck what you heard, this is the legendary story of 2 MCs; DRO BOY (Gatsby of Cancer Rising) & THE DEATH OF BRUCE ILLEST (of Mash Hall) who after smoking some reefers, find themselves being transformed in intergalactic superheros set out on our decaying world to do some shit, and meet some assholes
along the way...GUEST STARRING BARFLY OF THE SATURDAY KNIGHTS!!!

CHAPTERS:

CHAPTER 1 - REFFERS
CHAPTER 2 - DRO BOTS ASSIMILATION
CHAPTER 3 - UNEMPLOYMENT DEPLOYMENT
CHAPTER 4 - CATCH THE BUS PART 1
CHAPTER 5 - CATCH THE BUS PART 2
CHAPTER 6 - WEED MURDER CO-STARRING BARFLY OF THE SATURDAY KNIGHTS
CHAPTER 7 - STAR WHORES
CHAPTER 8 - ASCENSION INTO FUNK HEAVEN

D. Black on Seattlest

Click here for the full interview.

Who are you excited about in local hiphop these days?

All of it is pretty exciting, I think. I believe it's appropriate to say Blue Scholars have been putting in a lot of work; its been a great experience watching what moves they make. But there’s so much going on this year, a new Grynch album (which is amazing, BTW), the Cancer Rising EP, Tobacco Road (Common Market’s latest), Sharp Skills' new record and plenty more to look forward to. I’m excited for what this year will bring all together.

Larry Mizell, Jr. Gets Interviewed, Seattlest Gets Schooled

Lar aka Gatsby of Cancer Rising gets interviewed by, but schools, Seattlest. Click here for the full house.

What's your advice to Seattlites who want to learn more about local hiphop? Who should they be checking out?

Bottom line, they should be checking out everybody! And if they really want to know more about it, ask somebody who knows more than you! Seriously. The cool thing about people who know more than you is that they're everywhere!
