On being persistent
Good morning. To be successful we must have a burning desire! Most people are ready to give up their dreams when the first obstacle appears. We must out last any obstacle and persist! In my life, I have found that my will power mixed with my persistence always insured my success... Do you have a BURNING DESIRE??!? Do you really want what you say you want????? Don't let your fire go out! (Remember this) Weak desires bring weak results!

Q: Tell us about your craziest touring experience.
Thurz: My craziest tour experience would have to be in Seattle. We just got through rockin' at Chop Suey (shout outs to Laced Up and DJ Hyphen and J Moore of KUBE 93). We were approached by four different groups of girls that all wanted to take us out and chill. A few of the girls started arguing over us and trying to force us to make a decision.
Y-O: My craziest tour experience has to be in Miami. The fans showed us love-the women were gorgeous and there were a series of hilarious events. To name a few: Thurz falling off his scooter... ahahahaha, and our manager Chris London getting bird shit on his head at the beach.
Q: What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?
Thurz: I think L.A. is the best place to be, but New York has to be the best place to visit. The folks out there are real cool and show us a lotta love. It took me a minute to get used to the subway system, but that's the only place you can get drunk and not have to worry about driving home or waiting on a taxi, or paying five dollars for a gallon of gas!
Y-O: The most fun city to visit for me has to be my hometown, Seattle, WA. A lot of my family is out there, so to go back and visit is always a refreshing experience. Family is the core to Y-O.

I receive a late pass on this, but just got hip to it. Now that the internets is a buzz over the brushin of dirt off Obama's shoulder, there's been a number of writers who throw in their .02 cents!
The New York Times - Brush It Off by Maureen Dowd via Nah Right Lite
Barack Obama, who says he listens to Jay-Z along with his “old school guy” favorites like Earth, Wind & Fire and the Temptations, alluded to the rapper’s 2003 hit “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” on Thursday to sweep away concerns about his pugnacity.
After conceding that the Philly debate was tough, he brushed the imaginary lint of Hillary, George and Charlie from his shoulders, in a wordless reference to Jay-Z’s lyrics in his anthem about not letting anyone crimp your ride as you cruise from the bottom to the top: “Got some, dirt on my shoulder, could you brush it off for me.”
There’s no doubt the cat is cool. It’s easy to imagine the wild reception many parts of the world would give a President Obama as he loped down the stairs of Air Force One in his aviator glasses, the chic and chiseled Michelle on his arm.
The imagery of the 2008 race is all about cool and hot.

Was watchin the tube last night and noticed the new AT&T Mother's Day Commercial promoting free phones. Apparently its been airing for a week strong, but this was the first time I caught it. It's a beautiful piece of work concocted by the folks over at 1stAveMachine. Though, when you go to their site and click on the AT&T project, the soundscape for the visual is different than what's presented to you and I on television. According to 1stAveMachine, the spot is called "AT&T: Celebrate Spring" Click here to view stills and the original spot.
Below you'll see what I saw last night as you hear Daydreamin' in the AT&T commercial.

Is Seattle’s hiphop scene a community? What's it like to be an artist in this city?
I’d definitely say it’s a community. A lot of people want to go on the whole "We need to come together!" thing. But there is a sense of community amongst a lot of the artists. Not everybody can go to that certain level of success. Not everybody is gonna do something like the Blue Scholars are doing. But if you look at them, they've given back tremendously. They’re kinda the first guys through the door with a lot of national exposure, along with Grayskul and Boom Bap, and anyone who wants to criticize them for not giving back, they're crazy.
Look at The Program. They didn't have to put on the rest of the city. The main focus was them, but that's natural. Who else is gonna draw like that? I think within the next couple years you'll see more people gain national exposure. There's a few on the verge right now, and I think that's real exciting. Fuck the whole crabs-in-a-barrel mentality.
There is a sense of division as far as different genres, between backpack and gangster rap. But me personally, I don't see serious problem between people. It’s not like everybody is gonna do the exact same thing at every minute of the day. I see a lot of people on a regular basis, at shows, and there’s obviously a sense of community there. Everyone has lives, and this is the one thing that brings them together. I’m part of that next generation, the younger guys who are trying to do their thing. I’m just like every other artist, trying to contribute something good to the scene. This chicken is really good.

So, I think I've finally recovered from the Glow In The Dark Tour that just rolled into Seattle. The show was off the hinges and a memorable one at that. One to tell the grandkids about for sure. I couldn't tell you how many cats were rollin 'round the venue with their shutter shades on. Everyone from the oldest of the old to the youngest of the young were in attendance.
In addition, I've never had floor seats where I was so close to the stage for one of them "stadium status" type concerts. And I'm not talkin no summer jam or jingle ball jam show where they pack in as many 1 hit wonder artists as they can. So, we're 11 rows back and I'm thinkin that this is gonna be a great night. Met up with a few friend, one of which who rolled dolo and he copped himself a ticket as he got to the Key Arena and was seated in the fourth row. My dude A. Tsai was able to snag some images as close as he was and they turned out great!
Walked onto the floor as Lupe Fiasco opened up the show as he ran thru Daydreamin', Superstar, Kick, Push, Go Go Gadget Flow, Fighters and other records alongside Nikki Jean who you'll know from the Hip Hop Saved My Life video that's out right now.

Next up was Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo, and Shay who make up N.E.R.D. In true rock fashion, they smacked the crowd with songs from their previous two albums as well as material from their upcoming release.

Rihanna had the whole crowd goin "ella ella, eh eh eh" as well as singing a string of hits which included Hate That I Love You, Don't Stop The Music, and Shut Up and Drive.
Rihanna - Seattle Shoutout
Rihanna - Umbrella
The headliner, Kanye West finished off the show with a bang! I'll let the evidence speak for itself below. The setlist included the following:
Heard Em Say (Remix)
Through The Wire
Get Em High
Can't Tell Me Nothing
Drunk and Hot Girls
All Falls Down
Touch The Sky
Kanye West - Good Morning
Kanye West - Champion
Kanye West - Can't Tell Me Nothing
Kanye West - Jesus Walks
Kanye West - Hey Mama
Kanye West - Stronger
Kanye West - End of Glow In The Dark Show @ Key Arena in Seattle, WA
The show has come and gone. I walked away with a Mr. West t-shirt and it was exciting to get it at the concert even if there was a wait in line as opposed to ordering it online. We were even able to make a quick getaway as we were parked conveniently outside of the arena and behind one of the tour buses that didn't make it into the player's parking area gated within the Key Arena.
Kanye and company will be making a return visit to the Northwest in June when the tour hits the General Motors Place in Vancouver BC as well as Portland, Oregon on a date TBA. With that said, Mr. West, Rihanna, Pharrell, Chad, Shay, Lupe, Matthew or Nikki, if you or anyone in your camp is reading this, can you hook it up +1? I've got June 2nd circled on the calendar! ;-)

SOME BITS AND PIECES FROM THE SHOW AT NEUMOS - Sponsored by Jeepney Clothing & LacedUPvia chern
Videography: Chad Ross and Matt C.via Tyson
Edited: Chad Ross and Tyson Dai
Audio: Jazz Alley and Tyson Dai
Location: Jazz Alley Seattle, WA
This clip is from Choklate's new white label DVD. The release of the DVD will be sometime in April 2008 via Paris, France. Anyone interested in a limited edition DVD?
Chad Ross also showed me the other portions of the DVD and while viewing the footage you can see that the mic and stage is something that comes natural to Choklate. No wonder she has a big following abroad.
Choklate is a versatile performer from Neo Soul, Jazz, Funk, and Hip Hop. She is definitely a musical force in Seattle along with other dope talents I've been meeting in the northwest (Dyme Def, Bean One, Circle of Fire, Massive Monkeys, etc).

Busta is back! Photos from the shooting of We Made It with Linkin Park from a couple days ago. This'll be the first single off the forthcoming album, Blessed. Press release detailing the video shoot below.
SANTA MONICA, CA – April 15, 2008 – Not only is multi-platinum two-time Grammy-winning rock band Linkin Park featured on the first single from acclaimed hip-hop innovator Busta Rhymes' new album, but the band 's co-lead vocalists Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda will also appear in the song's performance video. "We Made It," directed by Chris Robinson, will be shot in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 15.
The intriguing culture-mashing collaboration reflects the theme of “We Made It.” Says Rhymes of the song: “It ain’t just about the ‘hood, it ain’t just about the suburbs, it’s about everybody. This is one of those songs that can’t be described better than touching the souls of the common people.”
“We Made It,” produced by Cool and Dre, with additional production by Mike Shinoda, and its video will be released in May, prior to the debut of Rhymes’ eighth studio album, Blessed (Flipmode/Aftermath/Interscope), on June 17.
Busta Rhymes’ previous album, 2006’s The Big Bang, his first for Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment, became the first #1 Pop album of his career, and fourth #1 R&B/Hip-hop album. Spinning off the Top 20 Pop hit “Touch It,” The Big Bang claimed the top spot in its first week and went gold. The album followed his gold It Ain’t Safe No More. The Brooklyn-born, Long Island-raised Busta Rhymes (named by Chuck D of Public Enemy) launched his solo career in 1996 with the platinum #1 R&B/Hip-hop The Coming and its Top 10 platinum “Woo Hah!! Got You All In Check.” Called “the most idiosyncratic personality in rap and possessor of its most recognizable delivery, a halting, ragga-inspired style with incredible complexity, inventiveness, and humor” (All Music Guide), Rhymes followed with three more platinum albums: When Disaster Strikes (#1 R&B/Hip-hop), Extinction Level Event (The Final World Front) (#2 R&B/Hip-hop), Anarchy (#1 R&B/Hip-hop) and Genesis (#2 R&B/Hip-hop), and their gold Top 10 Pop hits “Dangerous,” “Turn It Up” and “What’s It Gonna Be.”
While “We Made It” marks Rhymes’ first teaming with a rock band, Linkin Park previously crossed genres when the group partnered with Jay-Z in 2004 for the platinum mash-up Collision Course, a #1 Pop album that featured the digital gold, Grammy winning track “Numb/Encore.”
Linkin Park (vocalist Chester Bennington, drummer Rob Bourdon, guitarist Brad Delson, DJ Joe Hahn, bassist Dave “Phoenix” Farrell and vocalist Mike Shinoda) has been touring in support of its double platinum album Minutes To Midnight and new hit single “Given Up.” The album, one of the highest-debuting discs of 2007 and the seventh best-selling album of the year, has already spawned three Top 10 hits (“Bleed It Out,” “What I’ve Done,” “Shadow Of The Day”), amplifying an already illustrious career. Since arriving in 2000, Linkin Park has won two Grammy Awards (Best Hard Rock Performance with their hit single “Crawling” and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Jay-Z for the aforementioned “Numb/Encore”), sold more than 45 million albums worldwide (its diamond-certified debut Hybrid Theory has sold more than 18 million copies), and garnered an international fanbase. The band recently announced the highly anticipated lineup for Projekt Revolution 2008.
