DV ONE UPDATE

Some of you may have already seen this. Just passing the info along. Lisa Daugaard of The Defender Association says the following in regards to the jury selection of DV One's trial on Thursday, August 30th, 2007:

Hello all,

We will not be starting jury selection till Thursday morning. That is open to the public BUT there will be very little seating for spectators while the jurors are being questioned in the courtroom. Therefore it is probably best that supporters come Thursday p.m. or, to be safest, Tuesday 9/4 at 9:00 a.m., or Weds 9/5 or Thurs 9/6. It would be unfortunate if folks come down to support Toby Thursday morning only to have to sit in the hallway for several hours.

So -- Thursday p.m., or T-Th next week, W864 of the King County Courthouse.

Lisa

Keeping God first is key
Good morning. Between 1970 and 1999 the average American family has received a 16 percent raise in income. We are better paid, better fed, and better educated. Yet the divorce rate has doubled, teen suicide has trippled, and depression has soared! Modern research has confirmed what one Roman philsopher said two thousand years ago, “Money has yet to make anyone rich!”. (Take time to pray..:)

Attitude determines Altitude
Good morning. You cannot remedy anything by fighting or condemning it. Other people can't bring you down if you're operating on a higher energy level. NEVER respond to hate with hate. If you feel that those around you are bringing you down, its because you're joining them in their low energy. This week... Stay on a. high note! Enjoooy your week! :)

Q-Bert rockin Goods x Stussy New Era fitted

img src: Gregory Bojorquez

Been meaning to post up this link to an article in the LA Weekly from a couple weeks ago. I saw it as we were checkin into our posh abode at The Saharan shortly after touching down at LAX. I noticed in big words on the cover, "The Fil-Am Invasion," where the article covers the history of Filipino DJs in California.

As I read the featured article later that evening and saw the photography accompanying the read, I noticed
Q-Bert rockin a Goods x Stussy hat that was released on July 7th at the Pike St boutique. A good look for one of Seattle's dopest shops.

I was perusing thru the
Massline Forums and discovered a posting to photos of the Sneaker Pimps show on Friday, August 17th at The Showbox. Thanks to OneSevenNine on the link. It looks like Capitol 1524 was there as well. Just a hunch based on the above photo. I wonder when the
Sneaker Pimps site will have coverage of the Seattle stop on their page. Click here for the rest of the flicks!

Special Teamz - Long Time Coming f/ Devin The Dude

Posted the press release yesterday, here's a dose of what to expect when the album drops September 25th, 2007. In the mean time, enjoy Devin the Dude on the hook, this appetizer should hold y'all down for a moment.

Graffiti Ranger paid to make it disappear

img src: Jonah Spangenthal-Lee

The Stranger has a featured article by Jonah Spangenthal-Lee on the issue of graffiti and the cleanup of it here in the city. Hardest hit areas are Capitol Hill, University District and recently the Central District. Below are a few choice excerpts from the read. DV One even has a quote. Click here for the full house.

Every year, the city spends $1.25 million on graffiti cleanup—and that's just for city-owned property. (Private business owners are required to clean their own property.) In 2006, the Graffiti Rangers cleaned up 300,000 square feet of graffiti in Seattle, only to see it pop back up days—and sometimes hours—later.

According to one SPD officer who deals with graffiti—and asked not to be named—the city isn't doing much to stop it. "We don't have a graffiti unit in the Seattle Police Department," he told me. "Nobody's out there looking for graffiti thugs. We're out there looking for drug dealers [and] prostitutes." The officer estimates his precinct only makes a dozen graffiti arrests every year.

"When graffiti started, there was a higher standard," says Toby Campbell, better known as Seattle DJ DV One. He's something of a local graffiti historian. He remembers seeing it in Seattle as far back as 1984. "Back in the day it was hiphop cats. Now you have hipsters running around tagging stuff." In Campbell's opinion, the city's fresh-coat-of-paint solution may actually be encouraging graffiti by providing writers with fresh canvases. He said, "Doesn't that just invite people to do it again?"

Estate Seersucker Collection

Received this reminder in my inbox yesterday from Estate, but know that the new fitted's are in stores today! I'm a big fan of seersucker and this is a good look for any that's into the material as well. Too bad it's in limited production and only 25 for each colorway. There are 3 more to come according to Estate's blog.

The first 2 colorways of the Estate Seersucker Collection release tomorrow at Fitted Hawaii and the newly renovated World NYC. These hats were produced in small quantities. The hat features Seersucker on the crown and top bill, a swiss made linen underbill and lining. Give either World NYC or Fitted a shout to jump on one of the smoothest hats released this summer. New colorways releasing soon.

DUCKDOWN RECORDS to release Special Teamz

August 23rd, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

DUCKDOWN RECORDS TO RELEASE EAGERLY-ANTICIPATED

DEBUT FROM SPECIAL TEAMZ

STEREOTYPEZ TO BE RELEASED

ON SEPTEMBER 25TH, 2007

Special Teamz To Release Debut On Duck Down Records

Boston, MA-----Duck Down Records announces the eagerly-anticipated debut, Stereotypez, from Special Teamz.

While the Duck Down name, its history and artists are widely renowned and branded throughout the Hip-Hop landscape, the label is branching out to begin to distribute and promote artists from those outside the typical Boot Camp Clik artist structure and this change signifies a major transition in the label, as it becomes a home to develop and market artists of all flavors. The first such project of this transition will be Special Teamz (EDO. G’s collective group, which also consists of Slaine, Jaysaun, and DJ Jayceeoh) debut Stereotypez; which will be released on 9-25-07.

Genuinely considered the Godfather of Boston Hip-hop, EDO. G has crafted a handful of classics (“Be A Father To Your Child,” “I Got To Have It” and “Love Comes And Goes” among others) and in 1991 his "I Gotta Have it" hit number one on Billboard and the YO! MTV Raps countdown. His debut, Life Of A Kid In The Ghetto, sold over 600,000 units on the strength of Edo's flawless portraits of inequalities in Roxbury, and became his city's first and only rap artist to ever go gold. In the 15 years since, EDO’s dropped four heralded LPs and two EPs, toured the world extensively, and collaborated with the likes of Pete Rock, DJ Premier, KRS One, Common, Black Thought and Masta Ace.

Formerly the front-man for The Kreators, Jaysaun sold 10,000 copies of the Boston classic, Home, (featuring Guru, Big Shug, Akrobatik, Krumbsnatcha, and EDO. G), and was nominated for three Boston Music Awards, and even garnered significant MTV rotation. One of Boston's most respected wordsmiths, Jay has worked with Pete Rock, Cappadonna, and DJ Premier and has been an instrumental component in EDO’s recent solo releases.

The Southie gunner Slaine has become an overnight force! He dropped his infamous mixtape; The White Man is the Devil Volume 1 in 2005 and moved more than 7,000 units without any distribution. Recently he followed that up with its sequel Citizen Caine. Slaine's controversial tales of cocaine abuse, pharmacy robberies, violence, politics, racism, combined with his brutal imagery, have earned him the respect of collaborators such as Royce 5'9", Krumbsnatcha, Hatebreed, DJ Premier, DJ Muggs, B Real, Everlast, DJ Lethal and Ill Bill, the latter three of whom he moonlights with as La Coka Nostra.

For Special Teamz first collaborative effort, Stereotypez, the stakes are much higher. Boasting guest appearances from Devin The Dude, Sean Price, Buckshot, Ill Bill, Akrobatik and Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta as well as production from legendary producers DJ Premier and Pete Rock and rising beatmakers Marco Polo, Moss, Jake One and Xplicit. Special Teamz's Duck Down debut proves what their fanbase already knows: that no matter what preconceived notions people have about their city, Boston's top guns deliver some of the most socio-politically relevant boom-bap in recent memory. And while their rhymes are the sound of race lines being crossed and barriers being broken, it's really just the sound of rewind-worthy Hip-hop music, and that's all that really matters.

Tracklisting and credits for Special Teamz Stereotypez:

1.) Get Down (produced by Young Cee)

2.) Three Kingz (produced by Young Cee)
